Lost Property Department
Lost Property Dept equals less stress for jet-setters
Holidays are meant to be relaxing and enjoyable, but losing valuables while travelling can put a real dampener on the experience. Results from a recent Newspoll[1] survey found that 3.7 million Australians lose or misplace something of value every year, which has led to the development of Lost Property Dept, a new product and service that is designed to facilitate the return of expensive items, including cameras, MP3 players and mobile phones to their rightful owner – even when holidaying.
Lost Property Dept Founder and Director Grant Lee said: “I noticed a gap in the market for this service after discovering the high amount of items that are left unclaimed at places such as airports and taxi depots. Although insurance is available, it doesn’t protect sentimental data such as photos or video from your vacation.”
“With the Newspoll[2] survey revealing that 95 per cent of Australians would return a lost item to the rightful owner if they knew who to contact, it shows Australians will make an effort to return valuables that are lost while on vacation,” Mr Lee said.
The product is simple and straightforward involving the purchase of a Lost Property Dept pack with 15 metallic sticky labels for valuables and two key rings that both have a unique identification number. Once the labels are placed on the items all the owner needs to do is register their contact details online.
When someone finds the lost property they can call the number that is located on the label or keyring, which directs them to a 24 hour call service. Lost Property Dept then takes complete control of the process with pick-up and delivery of the lost item via Australia Post, in addition to the delivery of the $20 reward for the finder.
Lost Property Department spokesperson Glenn Ridge said: “My involvement with Lost Property Dept was an easy decision to make. My family and I have lost our share of valuable items. It’s never a good feeling, but knowing there is a viable solution gives me peace of mind that my valuables will be delivered right to my doorstep. There is even same day delivery depending on when the items are found. The results from the survey conclude that most Australians are honest, so having the $20 reward is an extra incentive.”
“Another benefit is not having to pay until your valuables are actually recovered, which is very satisfying. Lost Property Dept is a service that only requires an extra fee once your items are found. It’s an inexpensive method to protect your items,” Glenn said.
A Lost Property Dept pack with 15 labels and two key rings has a RRP of $29.95 and includes a two year membership. To renew membership after two years it costs a reduced amount of $9.95 per year.
